  • Indigo dye

When we use long outer garment with pure white kimono, we apply 3 types of indigo dyes (light-blue, blue, dark-blue), depending on the cloth and the concept. The craftsperson who plants dyer's knotweed is in charge of this part. Indigo has an insecticide, deodorizer, and anti-microbial effect.
  • Washi-Japanese delicate paper

We made an original kimono wrapping paper with “Birudan-shi”, one of the most popular Ecchu-washi.
This studio has been planting its raw materials (Broussonetia papyrifera and Abelmoschus Manihot) and making Washi with traditional manufacturing methods and tools that have been passed down through many generations.
Washi protects garments from moisture and helps keep its quality.
  • Paulownia box

We use natural materials of “paulownia (domestic)”. All process from removing lye and drying to a finish product is done manually by hands. (We usually put the product in a paper box designed exclusively. You have the option to pick a paper box or paulownia box.)

Establishment of KIRICS

Background

Uchikake, a long outer garment which used to be the leading player of wedding ceremony (one of the happiest occasions in one’s life) and it was specially made just for the bride.
Tomesode, a kimono with designs along the bottom, which was worn only in a wedding ceremony or a ceremonial event is hardly seen these days with the changing times. Those kimonos have been stored away in the chest of drawers for a long time. In reality, most of those owners are struggling for their usage or disposition and feel very sad to see their kimonos having mold and covered with dust. Finally, they decide to discard those kimonos or bring them to a recycle shop. However, recycle shops are not willing to buy them because they are already overstocked. No matter how luxury the kimono is, all of the kimonos would be discarded.
We have considered deeply how we can play a role in reincarnation and resuming their value of kimonos, which are just following a course of disposal. Then, the inception of KIRICS came to be and we are here to reincarnate and give new purpose for your precious kimono.

Price setting

It takes many days and effort to “reincarnate” rich kimonos that have been passed down from ancestors without losing any of their quality. We appreciate and value those sophisticated technical skills that have been used and those values cannot be substituted by anything.
The reason why kimonos that cost over hundreds of thousands of yen to a million yen are depreciating in value is that the kimonos have lost their value of wearing due to stains and faded color from not be worn for a long time. However, we don’t believe that those kimonos lost even the intrinsic beauty and technical values that were put into it.
Through reincarnation, kimonos resume the intrinsic beauty of the fabric with embroidery or woven textile that our ancestors left for us, and we can give the kimonos a fresh start in their lives. Therefore, our pricing will take into consideration our respect of all the values and effort.

“Value of kimono
that has been building up an history”

“Value of effort and technique

“Value of the reincarnated kimono”

To maintain the value, we are grateful if you can sympathize with the value and appreciate the quality by not only showing reincarnated form but also sharing the skills that have been put into and the beauty of Japanese culture. We will work hard to deliver a beautifully, crafted reincarnated kimono at a suitable price.

Inspiration and status

We would be very happy if you choose our product because it is beautiful and high-quality unique product. We welcome your ideas and love to hear your wishes, such as “would love to have it as dress-up clothes, to show my individuality, to take leisurely strides with this outfit, or to use as a casual wear.”
In the 1980s, there was a car that everyone admired on television and the demand for the car grew.
Similarly, we are living an era in which the demand and interest for “kimonos” are growing in the world by the days. We hope KIRICS kimono blouson will become the people’s first chose and come to admire the most through encountering incarnated kimonos.
